French photographer Charles Freger travelled across Eighteen European countries, visiting rural mountainous farming communities to capture centuries-old rituals and exploring the act of transforming oneself into the skin of the ‘savage’.
The transformations of man to beast celebrates the seasonal cycle, fertility, life, and death. The strange but beautiful photo book, explores human fascination with myth, ritual and tradition and the symbolic costumes, constructed of animal skins or plants, and decorated with bones, covered with bells and topped with horns or antlers, are both inspiring and fascinating.
