Fairy Tale Fashion

New book, Fairy Tale Fashion, aims to bring the scenery and fashion of the imaginative worlds explored in fairy tales to life. Written by Colleen Hill, Patricia Mears, Ellen Sampson, Kiera Vaclavik, and Jack Zipes.

From Cinderella’s glass slipper to Little Red Riding Hood’s cape, it is clear that fashion played a crucial role in fairy tales, signalling the status of a character and depicting their transformation. The book, which accompanies the opening of the Fashion Institute of Technology‘s exhibition of the same name, is the first to examine the history, significance and imagery of classic stories through the lens of high fashion by creatively linking tales like Beauty and the Beast to pieces from Dolce and Gabbana, Alexander McQueen and more.
