Dover Street Market opened their new London location last weekend, overtaking a heritage-listed space on Haymarket, originally built by Burberry founder Thomas Burberry. The interior has been designed by Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons, who wanted to ’embrace and enhance’ the buildings original features.
Kawakubo said: “I want to create a kind of market where various creators from various fields gather together and encounter each other in an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos; the mixing up and coming together of different kindred souls who all share a strong personal vision.”
Brands have been given the freedom to design their own individual areas, reflecting the inspiration and influences behind their collections. This has created a truly creative and immersive retail experience, with displays ranging from plush, quilted walls by Gucci, modernist simplicity by The Row, and a replica children’s playground by J.W.Anderson.
USP: Dover Street Market continues to push the boundaries of luxury retail and be a leader in innovation. Their new location provides an individual, inspiring approach to store design and visual merchandising.
